2008 Vacation Bible School Preview
Persons responsible for planning vacation Bible schools in local congregations are invited to the Presbytery office, on Saturday, March 8 for a Vacation Bible School Curriculum Preview.  The event starts at 10 am and continues until noon. 

During this time, they will be able to explore the curriculum preview kits, share ideas with one another, and ask questions.  Download an adobe version of the flyer for distribution to leaders.

Wee Kirk Gathering - March 29
Members of smaller membership churches of  presbytery, this is for you.  Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Camp Pee Dee you are invited to, "Come to the Table and Celebrate:  A Gathering of the Wee Kirk of New Harmony Presbytery." 

Beginning at 11:30 am, the event will include lunch at 12:00 noon.  A worship service, with communion,  will follow lunch.  Come, celebrate what is happening in your local congregation!

Permanent Judicial Commission delivers opinions in three cases.
The General Assembly Permanent Judicial Commission delivers their opinions in three cases.  These opinions upheld and clarified the actions of the 2006 General Assembly.  

The GAPJC found in the three cases that:
1) Authoritative Interpretations may not change ordination standards.
2) Governing bodies may not restate, augment, diminish, or define ordination standards.
3) Governing bodies may not waive the G-6.0106b ordination standard.
4) A candidate's actions must conform to the ordination standards.
5) "The ordaining body must examine the candidate individually.

For more than 35 years, Presbyterians have helped poor and oppressed people worldwide through the Self Development of People program.  Congregations are encouraged to proclaim Sunday, March 2, Self Development of People Sunday.

Self Development of People is primarily funded through the One Great Hour of Sharing offering.

The five presbyteries of South Carolina have secured Diana Butler Bass to keynote the 2008 Ministers and Educators Retreat at the White Oak Conference Center.  The author, speaker, and independent scholar will focus on the theme, "The Missional Church."

The remaining 2007-2008 Calendars may be purchased at one-half the original price.  These calendars have calendar pages which continue through the end of 2008.  However the help pages only go through May.

Korean-American Presbyterian Church will celebrate 24th anniversary.
Sunday, March 9, which is also "Celebrate the Gifts of Women" Sunday, the Korean-American Presbyterian Church in Sumter will celebrate 24 years of ministry.  The Rev. Dr. Rhashell Hunter, Director of Racial Ethnic & Womens Ministries of the PC (U.S.A.) will participate in the worship service.

Ken Thomas serves as president of the Sumter Community Concert Band.
Ken Thomas, pastor of the Swan Lake Presbyterian Church in Sumter, is president of the Sumter Community Concert Band.  Ken plays the flute and his wife, Magda, plays the oboe in the band.  The next performance is April 13.  Admission is free.
